I think at the moment its however big you can buy 2.5" hard drives. There is a theoretical limit of 2TB, as the PS3 uses FAT32. I've heard about cables running out the back of the PS3 (where the 2.5" HDD would be) that connect to a 750gb 3.5" HDD, and it working.
