Well, since it will be almost impossible (for beginners) for you to detect whether your drive is detected in the BIOS during startup (BIOS screen loads pretty fast)... press the DELETE key to load the CMOS settings (this screen allows you to view your peripherals and configure additional settings).
Once inside, somewhere inside you will see selections like "Primary IDE Master", "Primary IDE Slave"... like this:
CLICK HERE
Now... you should be able to see your DVD/CD Player in there somewhere. Lets move on to set your drive to Master:

Since your only going to have 1 DVD/CD drive, youll need to set the drive to MASTER. Behind your DVD drive there is a little white "jumper"... take it out and move it to the MASTER slot (do this if your drive is not on master)
Under your drive or on the top you will see the names "slave, master, csel" and it will map out for you where each goes in which slot
