Default Problem over 2 drives

Hello,

My problem is spanned over 2 drives, 6.4gB and 1.1gB. 6.4 was my C: at the time and the 1.1 my backup D:.
Now I was running Win98SE and while checking the properties of D: after recently formatting C: I noticed that I had the option to decompress (or rather, have more space on the drive) which I choose to do, and I got it, I don't remember the exact figure I got but it was around 500mB extra.
So time passes, and somehow I obtain a virus on C:, so since not having a writer at my disposal to backup I drop everything irreplacable on D: and format C: once I realize that is my only option.
Now since having formatted I realized there was the 'decompression' that I did in Windows which was not reversed, and I only understood this once I tried to access the D: and C: at the same time, which I could not do.
I am only able to see one at a time, and I am unable to get access to view/remove the files on D:.
Can anyone explain how I might be able to reverse this situation and salvage the drives.

Pardon me if I didn't explain this well enough, it's been some time since the actual event described above happened.
