OK just call me frustrated. Several times I got to the part that said press F6. I did and it just went right on never paused or asked me to put disk in A:. Tried it with disk in and out. (SATA driver).
Now when I reset to try again it stopped on a screen; System configurations, with the cursor set below a line that reads, "DMI pool data.....Update success" and won't move. I tried every key on the board, nothing worked except esc., to start the process all over again. Now what did I do? Am I starting to irritate you guys with so many questions? Should I just take it to someone who knows what they are doing? Seems to me like I'm giving up if I do.

Unplug the power cable to your machine. The DMI Pool message should go away the next time you boot.

In the BIOS, make sure that your RAID controller is enabled.

Now, during the Windows XP setup....

When setup asks you whether you will need 3rd party drivers for the RAID controllers, you press F6. Now, it will not ask for a floppy disk right now. You are simply telling the Windows setup that you will need to install the 3rd party drivers from floppy disk when the time comes.

When Windows setup reaches the point where it needs the drivers, it will ask for the floppy disk. Make sure that the drivers for the RAID controller for your board are not in a folder, or zip file on the floppy disk...Windows setup will not see the drivers.

They are in a folder. How do I get them out? Copy or something, maybe send to desktop and save to another floppy?

I'll check out your website while I wait for a response.

If you have the folder on the desktop, you should open the folder and highlight all of the files in the folder. if you right click on one the highlighted files, and choose Send To 3 1/2 Floppy, it will copy the selected files to the floppy.

You just need to have the files in the "root" of the floppy, not in any directory.

I've tried to copy all the files to 3 1/2 floppy. It states that some of the files are copies and do I want to overwrite them.

the only ones that I have been able to copy are the ones that pertain to winxp. I've put in the floppy when prompted and still it won't stop coming badk to the please insert floppy screen.There are only three files. I've looked all thru the ABIT web site and down loaded the SATA drivers. They all seem to apply to RAID. I just want the oS to recognize the HHD. I have only one drive and will not be using RAID until I can afford to purchase another one. They seem to have appeared in many places on C:/Windows/temp.
I'm still lost. I'll check back in the morning.

There's probably an txtsetup.oem or something like that XP setup is looking for.

The RAID controller drivers ARE what's required. The SATA ports on the board are run from the RAID controllers. This does not mean that you must have a RAID setup. The controllers will allow for a single SATA drive cofiguration.

Select the correct drivers for your mobo from the ABit website. Make sure that the drivers are specific to the RAID controller on our board. Most likely these driver came on the CD with the mobo, but downloading the latest RAID controller drivers make sense. Your almost done.

Everyone.

It's taken me a while to finish up and figure out what was wrong. I went back, disassembled everything, tested and then reassembled. The problem all along was my brand new floppy drive. I replaced it with one from a 10 year old unit that I salvaged, and it loaded and worked fine.

I appreciate all the help you gave me.

PS: It has taken me several days to get up the courage to admit this, I feel kinda dumb.

I feel pretty good about what I spent and what I got. Had some problems getting what I thought I bought on eBay., So at the end I shied away from bidding and just searched the internet. Odd, the only thing I bought at a store locally was the floppy that didn't work

Don't sweat it. The purpose for all of this stuff is to help, and if nothing else start the process of elimination....in this case, you obtained lots of good information and still fixed the issue yourself. I don't think any of us recommended that you test your floppy drive.

Yeh good job mate

Just out of curiosity did your system report any errors or warnings or just post a message or two saying something about conductor cables? or just cables in general.. if so this usually means that one of the devices connected to the IDE cables are either in the wrong order or are not connected properly, or cannot communicate with mobo e.t.c (does on mine anyway)

The system did not report an error of any kind. When prompted to insert the RAID set up disk in drive A: it just kept asking for the disk to be inserted. During boot up it recognized the floppy.

Thanks for the help again. I'm now going to try to replace the MOBO on an IBM thinkpad, so I'll be back for help.
