Default 1tb Drives for the masses

Hitachi have said they are releasing 1TB drives for $399!
No definite release date though....

Hitachi Jumps the CES Gun: Announces 1-Terabyte Hard Drive : Christopher Null : Yahoo! Tech

Seems silly to me.... what desktop is gonna need 1TB? Not unless you download films and music and all that sort of stuff.

I dont think ive gone over 40gb yet!

Exactly... those are the only people require this much big drive. But I think there are quite a few games as well, which is very big nd requires lot of space...

I have never used Hitatchi HDD's.....nd never heard much about them....

Once i upgraded my computer i might get one of these, my 250gb hdd is full, but 116gb of programs got deleted so i got plenty of space for now..

1TB is insane, i rekon you wouldent ever need to upgrade your hdd untill the next best tech.

There really aint any games that require anyhting like that lol, the biggest game i have got is UT2K4 with its mods, it takes up 10GB.

I dnt play so many games but long time ago...around in 2003, I saw a game, cant remember the name of it. It was on 3cds and took around 3GB of space.... Thats how I thought that there must be many more games which takes a hell lot of space....

Thats the same as a game from say 2000 on an 80gb drive! Back then 15gb was more than enough. It kind of says how much of an overkill this drive is.

To be honest I get worried storing loads of data on one drive. Eggs n baskets imo.

my friend and his dad, have like two servers, or more like desktops that act like media servers. They have something like a couple or so TB's of movies and music and whatever else. I think its completely usefull. Although a raid would be a really good idea, as thats a lot of information to loose at one time

I installed windows vista on a 13gb partition, only had 6gb free, shows that OS's are getting bigger, at least from MS, and programs are too

Ironically, Hitatchi took over IBM's hard drive division...

Unlike Seagate's CEO, I haven't heard Hitatchi's saying he helps people watch porn.
