My Computer

Default 6600gt oc

How much of a performance gain would I gain by oc the card in games like halfl2 and doom 3. What are dangerous temps for oc cards, and finally what can i buy to help reduce heat from the card.

thank you

You can get a new heat sink for most cards, or water cooling.

You should not need to O/C a card like that, its absolutely awesome, and will play any game easily. You will probably see no performance gain at all, and will only risk damaging the card.

I agree with Waffle.. OCing a card like that would be worth very little. If you got a performance gain at all it would probably be a few fps. The fps' that card is already going to get on those games should be fine. You might worry about OCing it later on when that card is lacking for games.

At the very best you'll get 10 extra fps in some games, not likely though. I oc'ed my 6800 but I'd never know it. If you're getting 60C you'll want extra cooling. Some cards come with crappy heatsinks and fans, usually Roswell cards (or any cheapo versions) come with less than desirable heatsinks/fans.

Depends at what resolution and what kinda AA and AF settings you're using. If you're looking to add noticeable performance, I really doubt you'll see a boost. Now a benchmark, yeah, you should.

I haven't really looked into the temps for the 6600GT, but I did notice that the default alarm temp is 127*F in the nVidia control panel.
