My Computer

Default ADSL gateway

This is really confusing, I don't know what to do. I bougth a asdl gateway to replace my broadband router that wouldn't work with my modem. But with this gateway it seems I dont even need the modem?? I've connected it up exactly as it says and gone to that http://192.168.1.1 thing and put in the settings and the gateway seems to be receiving the connection as the ADSL lcd is green but the "internet" lcd is red. AOL won't connect. What am I supposed to do? I think it may be because I need to type in the settings specific to AOL at the http://192.168.1.1 but not sure. I have no clue about this kind of thing so any help? cheers, matt

As far as i know, you will still need a modem to connect. If the router doesn't have one, you should get a external modem for it and connect with that... so it'd be the phone line to your modem, modem to the gateway, etc.. And You should have to set at least some things up on your gateway. At least, that's what I have to do with my dial-up. (assuming you have dial-up because you have aol)

if you have the correct router/gateway you do not need your modem try going to ur routers ip adress like 192.168.1.1 and typing in your isp DNS server adress and all the user information and it should store it, then if your runnig windows xp run network setup wizard. Hope this hleps Dave

you have to set your router as PPOA for AoL, and change the MTU size to 1400.. and also try to log in with your primary account with @aol.com
