i am currently planning a new desktop build, it will be for a mixture of web surfing and gaming (prefer my ps3 for gaming) but i still want a pc that will run the newest games very well so here are the components i am currently leaning towards:
motherboard: gigabyte GA-MA790FX-DS5 socket am2+ cpu: amd phenom 9850BE quad core@2.5 ghz video card/s: EVGA 512-P3-N845-AR GeForce 8800GTS (G92) KO 512MB 256-bit GDDR3 PCI Express 2.0 x16 HDCP Ready SLI Supported (may sli a second one later if i can) memory: G.SKILL 2GB (2 x 1GB) 240-Pin DDR2 SDRAM DDR2 1066 (PC2 8500) HDD: Seagate Barracuda 7200.10 (Perpendicular Recording) ST3500630AS 500GB 7200 RPM 16MB Cache SATA 3.0Gb/s case: RAIDMAX AZTEC ATX-619WY Black/ Yellow SECC Steel ATX Mid Tower Computer Case (already own this) PSU: BFG Tech BFGR800WPSULE ATX 12V 2.2 and EPS 12V 2.91 800W Power Supply CE, FCC, TUV, CUL any opinions from those more experienced in desktop building then myself (have built a few from scrap parts here and there) would be greatly apreciated....also had a question having to do with that mobo/video card combo...all i can find about compatability is "ati crossfire supported" does this mean that i will have issues using an nvidia card w/ this board? or does that mean i cannot sli 2 nvidia cards together on there? or will it work fine if i sli 2 nvidia cards on there? thnx in advance for any insight provided. |

Hi there again.
I have a few pointers for you: For starters why don't you save your self some money and get the 9600BE instead of 9850BE. Just over clock the 9600BE to even higher speeds something like 3GHZ. Also i think your going a bit of an overkill with your PSU. You don't need 800W, get your self something like 650W or 700W, again save your self some money. Last thing is try and get 4GB of ram

i figured i could overclock the 9850BE to higher then i could the 9600 since it already starts out higher then that one is. is the 9600 more overclockable then the 9850BE? i figured i might be able to squeeze 3.2ghz out of the BE. as for the ram another 2gb isnt an issue as that brand is only $59.99 so im sure i can work in an extra set (or maybe research 2X2gb sticks to see that price). as for the psu i was thinking in terms of covering for a possible video card sli setup later and wanted to get a psu to cover it now so i wont be buying another one later. but if you think a smaller psu will still work for 2 of those video cards then thats awesome that will save a few bucks for me, thanx for the advice pimp

If your going SLi in future then that 800W PSU will be fine. OH and BTW i forgot to mention that you should NOT go for 8800GTS, find some extra cash and get your self a 9800GTX instead
