I'm reloading a PC of mine, on Vista Ultimate. Reloading games back on here, pretty much every game I've tried to install (off of cd/dvd) gives some sort of error saying "error performing inpage operation." What's this mean?
Edit: When I install from an iso backup either from an external HDD or thru the network, it works like a charm, no errors installing Vista, and all discs are known working.

Common Cause of "Error Performing Inpage Operation" Explained
maybe increacing your swapfile / pagafile would help, currently what is your swapfile set at ? and how much RAM do you have ?

RAM is 3 gigs. I have the page file set to the default Vista Ultimate uses. In the past (if I remember right) that's worked.
Should I set the page file to double the ram like most do on XP/Server 2003?

Well I did what I asked in the last post, and I get this now (not just in this install, but every install). These are all legal copies, all disc 1 of 1, not sure what the problem is.
Corrupt install of Windows perhaps? I really don't want to reload Windows unless absolutely needed.

Quote:
to answer your previous questionin most cases it is sufficient, however, on XP Win constantly resized the swapfile, so, an increase in performance was achieved by setting the swapfile min & max to the same number (usually twice the RAM) however some apps / games required a substantially larger swapfile (usuall in the manual / documentation) sometimes setting a min & max swapfile to say 8Gb was all that was needed, all sorts of strange error messages suddenly disappear when the swapfile is increased, try it

I'm just trying to install games off of cd/dvd's. Legit, OEM copies. Never had these issues before.

Don't think it's a memory issue at all. Looks like something might have changed in the way Vista handles the installation script. That or the excessive DRM is getting in your way. Try it in XP compat mode, any change?

Yeah, you should be able to right-click on the executable and change the properties before running. Of course it's not as if I run Vista myself [thankfully], so I can't confirm it works as advertised.

That's the one that your error dialog is complaining about, so unless you have other info I don't have any reason to think the HDD is an issue.

Compatibility mode doesn't work.
So, DVD drive issue then?

Most likely. Of course, it could also be an issue with Vista... I trust Vista about as far as I can throw the city of Redmond, Washington.
