Thanks man, though perhaps trying the 9600 on more resonable graphical settings would be more fair. Just so anyone looking for a dirt cheap card will know what to expect on more realistic settings.
OK, I got bored, so I thought, why not compare 9600 performance in games to x800xt pe performance in games
I will start of with Half Life 2
It would be nice if other people that have any of these games can check out how many fps there getting at these settings i have put and then post them in here, then i can add them to the list below as say 6800ultra (other users)
I am comparing the performance of all cards on max settings in game.
HALF LIFE 2
http://www.hardwareforums.com/attachment.php?attachmentid=816&d=1130768683<<< location were i am benchmarking
16XAF 6XAA---1280X1024---ALL SET TO HIGH
X800XT PE: 70-180fps <hmm intresting, it wont go over 180fps, and i am managing a higher minimum fps to what i got at 1152x864---All set to high—4XAA 8XAF with the x800xt pe :s
9600NP:15-50fps
9600NP OC: 25-60fps
1152x864---All set to high—4XAA 8XAF
X800XTPE: 60-180fps
9600NP:19-66fps
9600NP OC:33-85fps
1152x864--- all set to medium---no AA or AF
X800XTPE: 50-180fps <<just gets worse
9600NP: 38-95fps
9600NP OC: 50-145 <<this is best improvment so far, i was surprised!
1152X864---all set to medium--- 4XAA and 8XAF
X800XTPE:50-180fps again!!!!!!!!!
9600NP: 30-80fps
9600NP OC:28-95 << little lower on min fps, but 15 fps increase, whoot
DOOM 3
http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v3...DOOM3BENCH.jpg
At first with the 9600 card it looks like it was limited to 30fps but the v-sync was off, and I had unlocked the fps counter using the com_fixedtic-1 command
16XAF 6XAA---1280X1024---ALL SET TO HIGH
X800XT PE: 20-150fps (50-80 usually)
9600NP: 3-19fps
9600NP OC: 3-25fps
1152x864---All set to high—4XAA 8XAF
X800XTPE: 40-200fps ( 80-120 usually)
9600NP:5-30 fps
9600NP OC:6-40fps
1152x864--- all set to medium---no AA or AF
X800XTPE: 70-350fps (usually about 120-200fps)
9600NP: 11-50fps
9600NP OC: 14-73fps<< again, i am surprised here, extra 23fps, looks like this combination of settings give the msot fps boost when overclocked.
1152X864---all set to medium--- 4XAA and 8XAF
X800XTPE: 40-200fps (too eratic, couldent tell what it usually is :p)
9600NP: 5-30fps
9600NP OC: 7-42fps
as some of you are aware, I have a slightly faulty motherboard which causes the computer to randomly shut down sometimes, and since I got the AX800XTPE I haven’t been shutting down half as much, and have been able to play doom 3 for long periods of time withought computer shutting down, but I noticed with the 9600, the computer shuts down on doom 3 after about 5 minutes, so seems like the crapper the video card, the more stress is been put on the system therefore making my computer shut down due to faulty motherboard.
[U] 3DMARK01SE[/ U] (total scores)
X800XT PE: 20,000 3D MARKS
9600: 9733 3D MARKS
3DMARK 03
X800XT PE: 12,500-13,000
9600: 2669, SHOCKING! I was expecting at least 4,000 on 3D MARK 03 :o
Aqua mark 3
X800XT PE: 64,000
9600: GFX: 2,604, CPU: 8,408. TOTAL: 22,558
With some tweaking in the ATI Display Drivers, and overclock 9600 from 325 core to 485core, and overclock cpu to 3.2ghz, I can get the ATI Radeon 9600’s score up to 30,000, I found that I can get the X800XT PE’s score up to 68,000 simply by overclocking cpu to 3.2ghz, so overclock the card itself and tweaking drivers could get it to I would say, 72,000-74,000
FarCry
16XAF 6XAA---1280X1024---ALL SET TO HIGH
X800XT PE: 30-80fps
9600NP: 5-11fps
9600NP OC:9-12fps
1152x864---All set to high—4XAA 8XAF
X800XTPE:
9600NP: 11-17fps
9600NP OC: 13-24
1152x864--- all set to medium---no AA or AF
X800XTPE:
9600NP: 31-45fps
9600NP OC: 36-65fps<< hehe this always turns out to be the most surprising, got a 20fps increase there
1152X864---all set to medium--- 4XAA and 8XAF
X800XTPE:
9600NP: 16-27fps
9600NP OC: 19-27fps
16X AF and 6X AA had to be forced for far cry, and doom 3
SPEEDS/ other things
X800XT PE: 520/560 (1.12ghz), 16 pipelines, GDDR3 MEMORY.
9600NP: 325/200 (400mhz) 4 pipelines, DDR MEMORY.
overclocking 9600...
as you can see in the attachment below, that the core clock is at 486mhz, and memory at 256mhz, and with the memory been overclocked by 50mhz you can start to see artifacs.
the temperature at stock speeds is at about 25 degrees with a cpu cooler fan stuck on witha tie wrap, but with the passive heatisnk and no fan, its at about 45 degrees, so i suspect the temperature of the core with a overclock from 325mhz-486mhz on the core will be 65 degrees with just the passive heatsink.
just thought i would take picture of top and bottom of my x800xt![]()

I can totally understand what you're saying about the shutting down problem, I used to have that and now with this new graphics card (6600GT, used to have FX 5200) it has only shut down randonly twice...I think with the old card the system was doing more work but with the new card the card is able to handle more work taking the load off the system.
oh well, must be becouse 3d mark 01 is old, as i get normal scores in 3d mark 03.
look at this review of my card, in aquamark 3 its scoring in the 50,000's, and its got a 3000+ amd, and yet i have a crummy old 3.0ghz penitum 4 and get 64,000 :o
http://www.hardavenue.com/reviews/asusx800xt2.shtml
and they only get 2,000 more than me in 3d mark 01 se, so my benchmarks cant be all that abd
as you can see on first post, i have updated it, and doing benchmarks on all of the games but with 3 different combinations of settings.
( i have yet to fill them in, give me chance :p. need shower first and some food)

Man you've put a lot of work into that dude. Great job. I'd bench mark but I dont' have any games installed at the moment. And I really don't want to go through the hassle of frigging around with steam unless I really have to or get broadband unexpectadly.
And boy do you have a ton of desktop icons, start-up times must be super slow.
