Default Can anybody tell me how to restore my Disk Drive

I have a Time Computer - Windows XP
When I put disc (CD or DVD) into the drive I just get a message that there is no disc in the drive.
I have tried several discs but always the same.

I downloaded "Nero Version 8.3.2.1 free trial" and then decided to delete it.
Since then I have been having problems - and now looking at 'My Computer'
I see that the DVD/CD icon is missing so I must have deleted the Disk Drive as well as Nero

Please can anybody tell me how to restore my Disk Drive.
I really don't want to clear my computer and reboot from the beginning if I can do it another way.
Thanks

My Computer

when you first turn on the PC did (or does) it find the CD /DVD drive in the post screen? (use the pause button to pause the screen - press any key to resume)

the most likely cause as far as i can see is the cable inside the computer has come lose, have you checked.

the post screen should ALWAYS find the drive even if it cant be seen in windows. if you cannot see it in the post screen and you havent changed any settings (inside or outside the case) then its either a broke drive (easilly replaceable), faulty or missconnected cable inside the case.

My Computer

Check here at Microsoft. This happened to me as well, and this tip solved the problem. You can no longer access the CD drive or the DVD drive, or you receive an error message after you remove a CD recording program or a DVD recording program in Windows XP: "error code 31"

Thank you both for your help (sorry about delay in reply).

In the end I used the RELOAD disc and it all seems to
be working now.
