Default Can't See Any Folders In "Browse For Folders"

Hi everyone, this is my first post here and I hope you can help me.

My laptop is running Win XP Home and to my (and Norton Internet Security) knowledge has no viruses/malware etc.

However, I recently have had a problem with various programs whereby if I want to browse for folders, upon the window coming up I can't see anything - no explorer tree whatsoever. I have taken a screenshot and attached it which shows exactly what I'm on about. I don't know what to do to resolve it, and it's really frustrating me as I've just bought an external drive and want to use its' software to specify new folders to save backups in. I know that I can do this via Windows explorer which does work, but shouldn't have to as this pop up window should do the trick.

I've attached a screenshot of what I get, and hope someone can help me with this irritating and frustrating problem.

Cheers
Rick

My Computer

Welcome to hardwareforums rick1486

That looks like death!

I would blank the disk and start again, complete re-install.

Thanks mate, I really wanted to avoid having to do a complete reinstall. Got any other ideas at all?
