My Computer

Default Centrino vs Centrino Duo

I purchased a Dell Inspiron 8600 afew weeks back and I want to trade out the 1.6gHz Centrino Processor with a faster 2.0ghz with a 2MB external cache... then I was looking at the core duo processors...their the same socket type and I THINK the same chipset. Would a Centrino Duo be compatible with the centrino board I have? I've goggled like crazy, but noone has even mentioned anything like this. Anyone know if this transplant is possible? Thanks for your time.

If i were you i would not try the Centrino Duo becuase the Centrino Duo may need a more powerfull mother board that can handle a Centrino Duo becuase i had some kind of problem like this i try to add a different prosser becuase i also wanted to upgrade and i turned out burning my mother board becuase the mother board could not handle the new prosser so i lost all my hardwear pluged into my mother board. So if i were you i would stike to the centrino. better salf the sorry

It's not even about a motherboard being 'more powerful'. The biggest thing that would stand in the way is if the laptop motherboard doesn't have the latest VRM spec to provide the proper voltage to the new Centrino.
