My Computer

Thumbs down The click of death

Well, looks like it's adios to my 2nd IBM 60GXP. Was working fine yesterday. Today, and I mean just about 1/2hr ago, it started making the clicking noises. This was after my Promise RAID controller wouldn't acknowledge a drive...So far, IBM has had a 100% failure rate for me. Oh, and BTW, I won't be RMAing this. This has got to be the worst hardware investment I've made in a long time...

I'd definitely be returning that and getting something else. I've heard that the Western Digital drives with the 8MB cache are very, very fast---supposedly near SCSI speeds in some areas. If you can afford one, that'd be very ideal.

Big B good choice I had three IBM drives die on me ended up going for 2x Caviar 80GB 8MB cache drives and haven't had a problem and they do actually perform as well as a scsi drive.
