Exclamation Clock Time Resets

I have a Compaq Presario thats about 4 years old now. Whenever i shut the computer down and turn the power off at the socket the time resets itself to midnight a few years ago. It holds the time and date when i just shut it down but don't turn the power off at the wall.

I've checked the BIOS time and thats correct when i've left it plugged in but that resets as well when i unplug it.

Do i need a new battery? i'm really hoping it isn't the motherboard

Hi. Yes, you need a new battery for the motherboard. Check the manual, it's the little button battery on the motherboard. I don't think they cost much at all, and I highly doubt anything is wrong with the motherboard.
