Default Dell laptop will not "find new Hardware" help!

I have a dell latitude d610, running XP. Trying to load a wireless card, software begins to run, and when it is time to insert the card, LT will not find the new hardware, system sits waiting. Even the device manager does not list the hardware. I having been using the card on another laptop and works just fine. so the hardware is OK, is there a setting on XP that is messed up?

Thanks

No, system does not freeze up, system does not acknowledge that the device has been "plugged" in. All most as if the card slot is unplugged. When I insert the wireless card into the card slot, (I make sure it is in all the way) and view the device manager, nothing shows up. Weird.

My Computer

Try installing the drivers for it before you insert it into the slot.
