My Computer

Default Different dvd drive error

A few days ago I posted about a dvd drive not being detected. I fixed that by reinstalling my drivers, this time I have a new problem. My dvd will not recgonize any cd or dvd. It simply says "D:\ is not a valid Win32 application."

I'm not very familiar with cd/dvd drivers, any information or help would be appreciated.

This sounds like an error in the file associations of Windows. Go to Start > Run and enter the following command:
Code:
regsvr32.exe "shell32.dll"
And then reboot.

Thanks for the help. I did what you said and after I entered the command it said

DllRegisterServer in shell32.dll succeeded

Then when I rebooted I still had the same problem.

Yes I can but I cant open anything on the cd or dvd.

What I mean by that is I can't just open the cd and run the exec file or I will just get the same error message telling me that D:\ is not a valid windows operation or w/e.

My Computer

It's the drive that I installed xp on, so yes.

Does this mean that it's not a hardware issue??

Possibly.

What do you have installed besides the OS? List all programs and drivers.

When you boot your system, do you have trouble booting off a CD or DVD at any point?

Have you run Memtest86?

You mean that memtest program?? You dont have to buy that, its free and the latest one is at Memtest86+ - Advanced Memory Diagnostic Tool

Also i would suggest that you should check in the Device Manager to see if there is anything in the Yellow exclamatery sign.. (Right Click My Computer > Manage > Device Manager)
