Hackthissite.org is great for learning to hack in a legal and protected environment. Its also fun to try to spot the federal agent posing as a hacker. My username there is Dark viper, but I am not an active member anymore so it doesn't much matter.

Hackerslab is even more fun than Hackthistite. With Hackthissite you're mainly dealing with web-hacking, HackersLab lets you telnet into their server and browse around their filesystem looking for security holes!

Interesting, but telent is not a very good simulation of a real world environment. Even Windows firewall blocks that. But I will check that out. Anyways Hackthissite ahs a new thing called Root this box. Its a game but I won't expalin it as it would take too long and I am lazy. Check it out via hackthissite.
