My notebook drive overheated this past week. It wouldn't even power up anymore. So I switched the PCB with my brother's identical drive, and now it powers and spins up, but the computer doesn't recognize the drive, it just spins and then clicks (but i don't think these are "bad platter" clicks -- unlikely that the platter AND the PCB board would fail at the exact moment)..
I talked to a Data Recovery tech and he says it's not recognized because Toshiba's firmwares are individualized at the factory. He says that there is probably only a blown fuse on my PCB, and that I just need to short it out to get the PCB running again. I'm attaching a pic of the PCB -- can someone point out where the fuse is? I recognized I'll need some assistance on shorting out (bypassing?) the fuse. Thanks for help. possibly FL5 not under the red overlay
![]() because it doesn't match any other components in size (resistors & caps) how does it look from a 45* angle in landscape (you have taken a 90* angle in portrait) because it's difficult to see from that angle
