My Computer

Default Firefox password remembering issues

Hello all.

Short description of my problem:
Why does firefox only offer to remember my passwords only on *some* sites, but not nearly all? For example, in GMail, I've tried logging in many times, and it never offers to save my password!

Long description
This is FF 3.1, which I recently installed. After I installed the new FF, I still had all the saved password data from my old firefox installation (2.something), but I went to Tools > clear private data and then I check-marked every box and hit "clear private data". (I did this because some of my saved logins were outdated, so the saved passwords were no longer correct.) Now, when I visit all the online places with some sort of login, I have to put in everything from scratch.... but for some reason, on a lot of the sites, nothing happens! Like, I am not getting any sort of p/w prompt in the GMail sign-in page. It just logs me in, and never offers to remember my password. It's annoying ... what do i do?

It could be that because you updated and kept the old settings, FF remembers sites where you asked for the browser explicitly not to remember the password..

This might not be the right answer but I would uninstall FF and then remove all traces of it from the PC (Mozilla folder in the Program Files, etc) and then re-install.

Hm. Okay... I was thinking I might have to try the reinstallation thing (I'm gonna hate having to reinstall all the extensions/themes lol). One thing I want to say, though, is that I definitely never told the browser to not remember my password on those sites... It must be something else??

Can anyone reading this at least tell me if you also have this problem or not? If you don't have this problem, also tell me, please. I'd just like to know if I'm the only one experiencing this.

Mozilla, or FF (if they are not the same) must have a forum or a bugzilla system.
Have you checked there?

You know, I thought of that ... and then forgot. And then you reminded me again haha. On the mozilla support forums I stumbled on this article specifically devoted to my problem... And it turned out you were somehow right the first time. As suggested in the article, I checked my exceptions to the password remembering thing, and lo and behold, there were those problematic sites listed there. So I just cleared the list. I don't know how they ended up on that list because I still don't remember ever telling FF "never for this site" but whatever. The long story short is that it was a simple solution that I overlooked lol ...
Thanks for the help.
