My Computer

Smile First attempt at Oc'ng

Hiya,

Well after lots of googling and reading I decided to have a go at OC'ng, on my new PC.

And I've managed to get my AMD Athlon 64 x2 6000+ 3.0Ghz up to 3.450Ghz, I'm sure I should be able to get more out of it though, my temps are fine at the moment, well under 40C at load, with a 230Mhz cpu freq and 15.0x mulitplier and 1.425v vcore, and 2.1v RAM Voltage, with 4-4-4-12 2T timings.

But whenever I ty to get over 3.5Ghz using CPU freq increase to 235Mhz with 15x multiplier, I get BSOD'd before Windows will Boot.

I tried incrasing the Voltage from 1.40v to 1.425v, same problem, so upped to volts again to 1.45, then 1.475....

I think it may be a RAM problem, its running at 4-4-4-12 2T timings and with 1.9v.

So I tried upping the voltage to 2.2v the manufacturers recommended....

and still can't get it to boot Windows, tried changing the timings to 5-5-5-15 2T, and it still won't go passed the 3.45Ghz, that I've got it at right now.

But my CPU temps are well within the range where I should be able to get more volts and more Mhz from it without anty risk to the CPU of overheating.

So I guess it's back to the books again, and look to see if I can find any wqaay to squeeze some more out of it....lol.

Screenshot of cpu-z validation is below, if anyone has any suggestion on how to get past the 3.5Ghz mark, I'd be really grateful for them.....thanks.

Kaz

My Computer

Well with no help from you guys....lol.....only kidding...!!!

I've managed to get it up to 3.525Ghz.....

I had to reduce the HT multi and the NB>SB and SB>NB Multis, increase both the CPU and RAM Voltage and make some other small BIOS tweaks.....but I got there in everntually.

Just completed a run of Super PI Mod 1.5, and completed 1M, 2M, 4M, 8M, and 32M succesfully, 32M time was 22m 15.252s.....

I don't know if this is good or not.....can anyone give any kind of reference data for this...???

I tired to get it to 3.6Ghz by upping the CPU freq to 240 x15 multi, but it BDOD'd me again....so 2nd chance for u guys...lol....anyone can suggest any way I can get it up further....PLEASE.....let me know...I'd love to get it to 3.6Ghz or even furthe4r if possible...!!!!!

Anyway fresh CPU-Z validation and Super PI result shots below:

for now, its probably not worth going any further, not at least until you have more of a graphic card (or add another for SLi) in gaming purposes. Its a good card, aggreeably, and I am getting one myself for my birthday in november, but for such a high spec system, your cpu is more than fast enough to keep up with it. If you sayyy, had a couple of them, your CPu may need to keep up with them a little, then you could try a little more overclocking. But remember, they are the cheaper, cut down 8800s, plus yours only has 320mb.

Well done so far, and keep your RAM under 400MHz (800MHz effefctive) as it is rated to run at that speed.
