Talking Free Games Thread

Ever played a game which was incredible, and yet cost nothing? Free is the best price! Do the world a service and post it in this thread!

Please, do not post any comments! If you like a game, just click "thanks" on the post where it's listed.
This thread should only contain a list of open-source or freeware games. No flash games please.
Thank you!

Important: Your entry must be a legally free game for any OS. The site-wide rules still apply here. Any warez, cracks, or other illicit posts will be taken down immediately, and your reputation on this forum will be harmed in the process (or you may be banned). Completely free or open-source games are preferred, but if a shareware version is good enough and provides a lot of game play, that is acceptable too. If any admin discovers that software posted is found to have spyware or other nasty surprises, that entry will be removed.

Now that the disclaimers are out of the way, post lots of free gaming goodness!

Thanks,
-AT

Anarchy Online (MMORPG)
http://www.anarchy-online.com/
Another adventurous RPG online with a large amount of people as you progress through the game. Your ship was blown out of the sky, the island you crashed on is being attacked by aliens. Maps are very large, even the noobie island is roomy

graphics-2/5
gameplay-4/5

Maple Story (MMORPG)
http://www.maplestory.com/intro.aspx
Kiddie sort of game. Geared towards younger crowd, 2d, simplistic snail-bashing hoe down. Not really sure what a story line is. You can team up with buddies and run about 5 different cities.

Graphics-1/5 (2d)
Gameplay-4/5

Kal Online (MMORPG)
Your life was saved by a Samurai in a neighboring village. You start with nothing except a basic weapon, and motive. Teammate are often troublesome, very much of a anti-social game. Map is huge though!

Rush On Seven Episodes -ROSE- Online
Another kiddie based game. Looks like a babie's anime. Fun though, not too action packed but very addicting. Also, it gets very boring come time.

Graphics 3.5/5
Gameplay 4.5/5

Only thing I would change, is when you sit down to rest and heal I would increase heal time because it gets very annoying.

Games by Ville Mönkkönen:

Notrium

http://www.monkkonen.net/notrium.php

"You have crash-landed on planet Notrium. Your food supplies are running low, a pack of predatory aliens have got your scent. There are no more bullets for your pistol, your only weapon a handful of rocks. The night is coming, and you are desperately looking for wood to make a fire. Notrium is a game of survival." Amazing game!

Magebane 2

http://www.monkkonen.net/magebane.php

"Magebane 2 is a combination of strategy gaming, roleplaying games and booklike storytelling. You fight your enemies, gain experience, find items, and have a good time! The game is easy to learn, but difficult to master. There are also various levels of difficulty to suit your specific needs."

Wazzal

http://www.monkkonen.net/wazzal.php

"Wazzal is a quality freeware single player space privateering game. The game starts when you capture a ship to become an interplanetary pirate. The idea is to fly your ships in our solar system and accomplish missions while gathering a fleet of ships to fight bigger foes. Wazzal features an ingenious plot and beautiful 3d-graphics to ensure a premium gaming experience."

Bikez II

http://www.monkkonen.net/bikez2.php

"The idea of Bikez II is to complete increasingly more difficult missions while gathering money to upgrade your four fully customizable weapons. Money is gathered both from completing missions, and slaughtering innocent citizens. The camera located behind the bike and the cool slow motion button make for a movie-like appearance. Above all Bikez II is a fun game that satisfies the 'Blood and big guns! Heehee!' feeling."

The Forge II

http://www.monkkonen.net/forge.php

"The Forge is a 3d gladiator fight game. Basically the point of the game is to manage your gladiator from crummy division three to the final point of winning the famed division one. Each won fight earns you money to better equip your gladiator to fight even bigger foes. The game is quite addictive and has received lots of thanks from the press all over."

Scorched 3D

http://www.scorched3d.co.uk/

"Scorched 3D is a game based loosely (or actually quite heavily now) on the classic DOS game Scorched Earth "The Mother Of All Games". Scorched 3D adds amongst other new features a 3D island environment and LAN and internet play. Scorched 3D is totally free and is available for both Microsoft Windows and Unix (Linux, FreeBSD, Mac OS X, Solaris etc.) operating systems."

http://icculus.org/neverball/

"Tilt the floor to roll a ball through an obstacle course before time runs out. Neverball is part puzzle game, part action game, and entirely a test of skill. Also found here is Neverputt, a hot-seat multiplayer miniature golf game using the physics and graphics of Neverball. Neverball and Neverputt are known to run under Linux, Win2K/XP, FreeBSD, and OSX. Hardware accelerated OpenGL is required. At least a 500MHz processor is recommended."

Battle for Wesnoth

"Fight to regain the throne of Wesnoth, of which you are the legitimate heir, or use your dread power over the Undead to dominate the land of mortals, or lead your glorious Orcish tribe to victory against the humans who dared despoil your lands … Wesnoth has many different sagas waiting to be played out. You can create your own custom units, and write your own scenarios – or even full-blown campaigns. You can also challenge your friends – or strangers – and fight multi-player epic fantasy battles. Pingus

"Pingus is a free Lemmings clone for GNU/Linux and Windows covered under the GNU GPL. Pingus uses ClanLib and libxml and might also be usable on some other OSs like FreeBSD, but hasn't been tested there. Pingus is mainly developed under GNU/Linux, that's why the Windows port is sometimes a bit behind."

Nethack: Falcon's Eye

http://www.hut.fi/~jtpelto2/

"NetHack is one of the oldest computer role-playing games still played and developed. Some players may dislike the game's character-based graphics. Newer versions of NetHack feature tile-based, somewhat prettier graphics, but I decided to go even further. Thus, I decided to create a new, graphics-intensive look for NetHack. Falcon's Eye is a mouse-driven interface for NetHack that enhances the visuals, audio and accessibility of the game, yet retains all the original gameplay and game features. Supports Linux, BSD, BeOS, DOS, Windows 95, 98, Me, NT4 or 2000."

Ur Quan Masters

http://sc2.sourceforge.net/

UQM is a unique space exploration, adventure, rogue-like, strategy, resource-gathering, action, adventure game! It was originally released on the 3DO console as Star Control 2, which met with little fanfare due to the unpopularity of the 3DO itself. Despite this it is one of the most innovative, skillfully crafted games ever made, and boasts an amazingly atmospheric sountrack. This from the website: "The project started in August 2002, when Toys For Bob released the partially ported sources of Star Control 2 3DO version to the fan community. Our goal is to port this wonderful game to current personal computers and operating systems. It is and will remain 100% free of charge, and anyone can contribute to the project and thus help make it even better. For more information, look at our info page. UQM will run on Windows 98/2k/XP, Linux, FreeBSD and MacOS X. It probably works fine on OpenBSD and BeOS too."

This is truly one of the most underrated games of all time! I had to include 7 screenshots just to give you a small idea of the scope of gameplay this amazing game offers.

Frozen Bubble

Linux: http://www.frozen-bubble.org/home/

Windows Port: http://fb-win32.sourceforge.net/

"Full-featured, colorful animated penguin eyecandy, 100 levels of 1p game, hours and hours of 2p game, a level-editor, 3 professional quality 20-channels music tracks, 15 stereo sound effects, 7 unique graphical transition effects. You need this game." Frozen bubble is a free, open-source clone of the old 'Bust a Move' games. Great game, great soundtrack, very addictive. Traditionally a Linux-only game, but now there's a working Windows port! Fullscreen doesn't work yet for the Win32 version, but it's still fully playable in a window.

S.C.O.U.R.G.E.: Vermin Extermination Services

http://scourge.sourceforge.net/

"Life is comfortable in the quasi-medieval city of Horghh. In fact it is so comfortable that a group of aging adventurers - having no monsters to slay, young people to rescue, or tree-stranded pets to fetch - decide to incorporate into a dungeon janitorial services company. After renting a run-down office-hovel on the shady side of town, the group accepts missions from a line of increasingly dangerous low-lifes. Our heros are hired by overlords, evil sorcerers, and underworld bosses to exterminate pests occupying old dungeons, haunted towers, and other future centers of world domination. While working for the daily mutton, group members battle alcohol addiction, low self esteem, non-existent self-confidence, and total loss of integrity. It is a grandiose battle of epic mental and psychological proportions, to which most players will relate." For Windows, OS X, and Linux/Unix.

Features
-Multi-level, random, scrolling dungeons. Populated with many, fearsome vermin for yer exterminatin' pleasure
-Control a group of four ex-adventurers as they try to find dignity in their new profession
-An interactive world of items, characters, spells, enemies and traps
-Multiple missions per level, so you decide which dungeons to enter
