Bang! Howdy

"Bang! Howdy is fast-paced tactical strategy in a wacky Wild West world."

...That's a tongue-twister. This game is turn-based but has a RTS feel, with some role-playing elements thrown in for good measure. A steampunk-themed multi-player game, the more ranked battles you win against other human players, the more cash you get and the more unique units you can recruit.

It seems to be totally supported with marketing (they sell your info to marketing research companies), so you might want to sign up with the email address you usually use to sign up for things that'll spam you. As a result, you must be at least 13 to sign up.

This game is cross platform: Runs on Windows, Linux & Mac equally well.

Streets of Rage Remake (Win32)

This is for anyone who used to own a Sega Megadrive and enjoyed playing any of the three Streets Of Rages games available for it! Even if you have never played the original games, you'll still get lots of entertainment from this old school beat 'em up!

This game draws content from all three games, and includes new characters, levels, effects and hidden content.

Here's something for old fashioned point-and-click adventure game fans:

AGDInteractive: King's Quest 1 & 2 VGA remakes. And they're still trying to finish Quest for Glory 2 VGA.

SAVAGE: The Battle for Newerth

From Wikipedia: "Savage: The Battle for Newerth is a fantasy/science fiction computer game that combines aspects of Real-time strategy and First-person shooter into one game. The producers of the game define it as a 'Real Time Strategy Shooter', or 'RTSS'. It takes place in the far future when man has (after an apocalypse) rebuilt society, but is threatened by intelligent beasts. On September 1, 2006, S2Games made the game free to download on its website.
...
"The Savage Full Enhancement is a community expansion package that improves netcode, improves the GUI, and adds other features such as 3 or 4 team gameplay, duel maps, capture the flag and approximately twice as many configurable options. It also prevents many exploits and cheats. The mod was formerly known as the Savage Enhancement Project before its final version in January, 2007. It adds many game improving changes, including lag compensation, weather effects, as well as many other features. On June 27th, 2007, the Newerth community site announced that it would be responsible for maintaining the project, as well as adding additional features"
  • SFE: Main Page -- Here you can download the stand-alone, pre-patched version of Savage for Linux and Windows, or the SFE patch for Mac.
  • S2Games -- The official S2Games website. Here you can download the unpatched version of the game, and additionally check out the forthcoming release of the sequel.
If you haven't played Savage yet, don't miss out. This game runs natively on Linux and Windows. There is a Mac client also, but the resale rights are owned by a 3rd-party port house, and the Mac port isn't freeware. You may be able to pick it up elsewhere (on amazon?), and then patch with SFE. Or, you could just multi-boot your Mac with Linux.
