While many of us prefer to roll our own, if you're looking for a pre-built box, Gateway might be worth a look, at least according to [H]ard|OCP's review of the DX310X system.
For the mid-level market this machine targets, it scores a hit. A comparable Dell costs about $200 more and uses an integrated video solution as opposed to our discrete NVIDIA card. The Gateway represents a better value in that you get essentially the same machine for less money and with better support. You might be able to find a comparably-equipped AMD X2 system that will give you better performance for the price, especially with the cost of AMD chips going down for the consumer. A few minor gripes aside, they really seem to appreciate Gateway overall. |
