To get a Macbook or not to get a Macbook, that is the question...

?

Should Matt get a Macbook?

  1. Yes he should, he'd then rule the Universe.

  2. No way, he should stick with his current work-horse!

Well I've been thinking of getting a Macbook. This is for a few reasons:

    1. I love Mac OSX (and I'll wait until Leopard comes out before I finally decide)
    2. They have great battery life. (up to 6 hours, guys on my course get over 5 with it which is pretty damn good I think)
    3. They look sh*t hot :D
    4. I want one (no reason needed hehe)

Well I've been thinking of going with the following configuration:

    White
    2GHz Core 2 Duo
    1GB RAM
    80GB HDD
    SuperDrive

With my educational discount I'll get it for £755.53 (it'd usually be £879.00)

It's got less RAM and HDD space than my current laptop, but then again, I've never used more than 700MB (don't mention Vista, ever...) and I've not got 80GB of stuff on my laptop, I have most of my data stored on an external HDD.

My mum has offered to buy my current laptop off me (full specs in 'My Computer' section if you want to see) and I'm seriously considering it. The thing is, I love my current laptop, it's got nothing wrong with it (few minor cosmetic marks) but it runs great. The reason I don't like it is that the battery doesn't last more than 2 hours and I hate carrying a charger around Uni with me...

So I'm pretty damn sure I'll get one, battery life being the main reason, also the Macbook's are so much smaller than my laptop!!

Macs and macbooks are great! I might buy a mac with christmas. Most games don't support Mac OS though, but for all other purposes, you should get apple related stuff :D

Yeah a friend of mine runs Gentoo on his Macbook.

I may install Linux on there at some point *if I get one*, I may just love Mac OSX even more and not see the need for it!

Yea, I have used a Macbook and I have to say, it is great. I love everything about Apple. I don't know what the specs were on it, but it had iMovie HD (HD video editing software is not cheap) and GarageBand (neither is a decent track editor). That plus MS Office and it had everything I could ever want. I say get it and rule the universe. Mac FTW.

    Hey

Im not voting as i feel very strange towards my macbook. Yes im getting rid and yes in another 5 months i will be replacing it. But even so, something just feels wrong about giving it up.

I dunno what Steve is putting in mac's these days.

Now I may have more money for the Macbook, so I'm thinking:

    Black
    2GHz Core 2 Duo
1GB RAM (I might get 2GB, depends if I have the money)
    120GB HDD
    SuperDrive

Black one is more expensive (it has a larger HDD but is still slightly more expensive anyway) but it looks really nice.

Hehe, I just can't decide... too many options! :D

Yeah the black one is just so much more interesting.

Also I was going to get the white one with the 120GB HDD which adds like £85 onto the price, for an extra ~£20 I can get the black one which already has a 120GB HDD (plus it's black, which I haven't seen around, only in the Mac shop I've been to)

    :)

Well it might not be for some time yet (my Mum is buying my laptop off me when the house 'back home' has completely sold) but I'll be getting a Macbook, just got to work out whether or not to spend the extra ~£100 and get 2GB of RAM instead of 1GB...

I think I'm gonna get the extra RAM, one of my flatmates bought the standard Black Macbook online today, he should get it next week. I've inspired others to buy them, I think another 2 of my flatmates are going to get them!

    What I'm going for:

    Black
    2.0GHz Core 2 Duo
    2GB RAM
    120GB HDD

Should be a nice lil' lappy when I get the money for it (hopefully in the coming weeks) :D
