so at the moment i am running two 2g sticks correctly. My motherboard has 4 memory buses, separated by color there are 2 black buses and 2 blue. My current 2g sticks are in the black. I have two more spare sticks that are also meant to be ran together for a total of 2g total, 1g a piece. These other two are also compatible with my motherboard. Can I put these two 1g sticks into the blue buses.. Sorry i am a bit of a hardware noob.
Welcome to HWF What kind of motherboard do you have? The colors could indicate two dual-channel slots, but could also mean that your motherboard supports multiple types of RAM (DDR1/DDR2/DDR3).
Maybe I'm wrong but i heard rumors that when you use two different types of RAM ( even two different manufactures) you'll end up with a loose of speed
That depends on the situation. If you start mixing DDR2-800 with DDR2-1033, you'll end up with the slower DDR2-800.
You won't only lose speed from the memory clocks, the CAS latencies will be out of sync as well which results in both stability and speed issues. It's highly unrecommended that you run two different types of RAM on the same computer.
