Default Graphics Card suggestions

I'm looking to get a new card for xmas and don't have a clue what to look for and what will work well. As a general thing I want to play something like command and conquer 3 perfectly. Looking at around £100 and need to know if I'll need vista for it to work (or if I will need vista anyway for c&c to work well) If you need my pc spec then say so and I'll post it.

Thanks in advance

8800GT looks good. ~140 punds, but still, it's worth your money.

I don't know much about HD3xxx series, but soon i will take a look at them too.

Sapphire ATi Radeon HD 2900 GT 256MB PCI-E - Aria Technology

Here is a card around the price point mentioned. It provides direct x 10,Crossfire, and HDMI support. Indeed you could go for a higher price card but if you are on a budget then this is a worthy contender.

As you don't mention wether you have AGP or PCI-E im guessing on PCI-E.

Ive gone for Aria pc as that's where i buy all my stuff from and there sound as a pound on tech help and prompt delivery.

A list of your current specs would be beneficial.

I don't get yer. Vista is an OS.
You don't need Vista to run a GPU card.

As for where to get Vista if you should want it, anywhere that sells it. I don't know the comparisons between the individual Vista packages. Home Premium seems to be the best choice.

Oh and XP is fine for now, unless of course you want the scrolly menu thing or are thinking of building a new rig.

I'd been told that to use DirectX 10 which is the main support of newer cards you have to have Vista or something along those lines. I had looked into it but never got a clear answer. I think the suggestion for newer games is to have Vista anyway.

I will get around to putting my spec on at some point but I'm working on my laptop at the moment (Gotta get it working after a reformat). Tomorrow maybe

Oh and whats generaly better ATI or NVIDIA. At th mo I've got an NVIDIA that works pretty well but I know ATI are alright too.

You can find the spec for my pc here.

nVIDIA are generally better at writing the software for their cards, ATi are having a lot of problems with their drivers at the moment with their newer cards, resulting in poor performance on a lot of things. This may get fixed and sorted in the near future though.
