    Default GPU overclock

ok, well as you all know i ahve an X800XT PE, i ahve found that when i overclock it to X850XT PE speeds (540/580) i think, i can run most game ok, but when it comes to any benchmarks such as AQUAMARK 3, i start the benchmark, and then all i get is a black screen, and i have to hard reset the computer, on 3D MARK 01 SE, i can run the 1st test of the 1st game, but when it comes to running the 2nd test of the 1st game, all i get is black screen, then having to hard reset the computer, is this a overheating problem?

i noticed when i put clock settings on 560/580, game sstarted crashing, then gpu reset kicking in, and then lots of artifacts on the screen.

It is probably overheating, if you're going to overclock a lot I suggest a better GPU cooler.

Maybe the RAM is overheating? Have you got Ramsinks on?
It's not just the core you have to think about.

ah, no, the actual fan part just hovers above the ram, apparently the ram runs so cool, it dont need ramsinks, errm, i am thinking about buying an AC SILENCER 5, but i dont want to risk damaging the graphics card when taking the stock heatsink off/fan off.

You won't, just carefully unclip, get rid of old thermal paste and put some AS5 on there, intsall the new HSF and away you go, the only hard part may be unclipping old Heatsink and Clipping new one in...shouldn't be too hard though.

you could do if you wanted, if it's a 3-pin fan (i suspect it is) then you could leave it in there with a 4-pin molex to 3-pin fan adapter, i wouldn't as it wont do much and will make more noise, anyway do you know of any other reasons why it could be crashing when doing tests? maybe you have just reached the cards limit like a CPU, remember all cards are different like CPU's so some overclock higher than others...

ok, i got aquamark 3 to work with clocks at 540/580 and it got LOWER scores than at stock speeds :s, usually at stock speeds i would get about 62000-64,000 in aquamark 3, but with the overclock, it only got a score of 57,000 :s
i thought the higher the overclock, the better :s

Seriously man, you've had so many problems with games not running like they should and benchmarks scoring under par, i think it's time for an upgrade!

Your CPU, I think everyone here will agree that the Athlon64s are the processor of choice for gaming. You aren't unlocking the full potential of your card. A Venice 3500 should do nicely depending on your budget.
