Had Drive for Windows & 1 for Programs

Hey,

I am building a new intel windows system and would like some feedback on the hard drive setup.

I was told once that there is significant increase of the speed of the pc if you purchase 2 hard drives, and install windows onto one, and then install everything else (like programs etc) plus all your personal data onto the other.

Apprantly its meant to let the OS run without all the other crap taking up resources on the hard drive windows is installed on.

Anyway any feedback would be great.

About the speed I don't know, but seperating the System from the other stuff is great anyway - I, for example, have only one HDD per machine and each of them has 2 partitions - one for Windows and the other for my data...

just buy a large hard drive and make like 3 to 4 partitions.. You will not gain any speed..
By having two hard drives it will only take longer to load and dual boot..

sorry but that is aloada crap, however, a separate partition for your data is a good idea, because you can format the OS partition without destroying your data

I guess there could be a speed increase if you're doing bandwidth intensive work which requires data to flow from one drive to another because of the fact that they're on different channels (if that's how you set it up).

I like to separate the very large programs from the system drive on my Windows installation, since the system disk tends to get fragmented a lot I like to install things on a separate partition which stays rather clean.

By the way, separating windows and your programs won't save you from installing them all over again. If you decide to reformat/reinstall you'll have to install them again because they won't be installed properly just because they're on a separate partition.

i doubt you could actually see the speed increase without benchmarking both setups, if you want to increase performance install a RAID 0 (zero)
