Pentium 4 Prescott - 7Ghz !!!!!!

http://blue.ap.teacup.com/applet/mem...050809/archive

The link was posted on a none English speaking site and basicaly said that the cooling was done by liquid gas!!!!! This is just mental!!!

LOLOLOLOLOLO!!!!!!!

Thats just absolutely insane!!!!!!!!!!!
But then again they could have just greyed out the frequency parts and wrote new ones in, BUT from what i read on the TomsHardware 5Ghz project a while back 7Ghz seems very possible! (liquid nitrogen)

I don't know if an Athlon would get there simply because of the design. I'm not sure what everyone knows, but AMD's entire idea behind their CPU's is more processing per clock cycle. Which explains why you have 1GHz speed differences between the compareable speed grades from Intel and AMD. If you want an OC purely for a huge number, Intel is the way to go. While they say they're moving away from it, Intel has gone with a bit less processing per clock cycle, which gives them more leeway in ramping up speeds.

Will AMD hit 7GHz? Eventually, yes, but Intel will probably be at 9-10GHz if they continue their current trend. On the other hand, Intel has had some issues in the past trying to get a 4GHz CPU for stock speeds and eventually gave up. At this point, I don't know what's being researched, but Intel is supposedly looking into different designs for their CPU's.

The last email I got from my freind, suggested Intel have managed to develope a chip which can produce a laser 'beam'. Apparently it was in the news and everything (we are talking months ago). That is probably where they are going.... fiberoptic or some sort.....

Probably meant somehting about fiber optic motherboards. You can already get those but they cost $$$$$$$$$$$$.

pointless waste of a semi-good chip. When you hit that big of an OC on any cooling say goodbye to your rig.

I'm not certain that Intel will hit 7 GHz (if they do it will be many years i predict), there's only so far you can go before the limitations of physics with such a high frequency on current transistor technology.
On saying that, if technology does progress to the stage where molecular scale nanotech transistors are available, then these insanely high frequencies would be achievable.

lol 10 years from now...
'yeah i got a quad-core 8GHz CPU, 1400Watt PSU, 40 Terrabytes of Hard Drive Space, 32 Gb of Ram and an nvidia 13k GTX-Ultra-Uber-(many other suffixes on here) series Graphics card and a bazillion speed CD-RW and 48xDVD-RW/Blue-Ray writer all housed in a computer case so advanced that it can walk downstairs and make me some blueberry pie if i think i might want some'
