There is no polite way to ask, but I'll be blunt. Does all of this shit work together? Is there anything more I need? I've looked already and my head says 'yes', so please don't tell me 'look yourself' -- I already have.

I'm a complete newb. I need reassurance I am doing good.

    Is this a good setup?

Oh, forgot to mention, I will rip out a DVD/CD player out of my old computer, so that's not a problem.

I am using my computer for typical desktop shit (youtube, etc), the testing of a novel connectionist model (just know that it must do a *lot* of floating point calculations), and gaming. The gaming doesn't need to be over the top. Red Alert 3, Spore, Command and Conquer, stuff like that.

Have you checked other places besides Tiger Direct ? Like Newegg.com or Directron.com..
Your choice in Monitors, Look at newegg, they have a Acer 22 inch for only $ 169.00
Thats only if you like saving Money..I would look @ New egg for all your stuff, just to see any price difference.

Thanks for the advice, I will do that. Do you think my setup will work? What must I worry about the first time I make a computer?

Everything should work fine together. My only gripes are with brands you've chosen. For example:

I would choose an ASUS or ABIT board over Biostar. Other people have varying preferences, but I don't think Biostar is the starring brand choice for anyone. Also, I would highly recommend getting a Seagate hdd. I've seen a lot of bad Maxtor drives in my day. Otherwise, it should be running great.

Also, I second the recommendation to do your shopping at newegg. Great company.

You are headed for disasater. There is no easier way to say it...Some of the brand manes you have chosen...are trouble in the waiting.

I recently built "My Dream" machine. Before I started I asked The knowledgeable people...What were the quality brand names .
    This was their response

    MB Asus or Gigabyte
    CPU Core2 Duo
    Ram Crucial...Corsair.
Video depends on what you want to do if your not gaming then HDMI ?? or dual Monitors or graphics if your just using business apps and web/Email integrated may work for you??
    HD Seagate or WD
    PSU Seasonic - any model
    Corsair - any model
    Thermaltake - "Toughpower" series only
Coolermaster - "Real Power Pro" series only
PC Power & Cooling - any model
    Silverstone - any model
