Yeah, it's just a step backwards from 3.5.x right now, so nobody's all that excited about it yet.

Geek with an attitude: Why KDE4 (might) suck!
FYI: KDE4 *does* suck, I'm running the very latest build on my laptop and I hate it. It's been out for months, yet it's not even good enough to be called a beta version IMHO, let alone a production build. The KDE team is usually so good... they've been smoking some of the Kubuntu guys' crack, I think.

It's certainly a bad time to be a KDE user. KDE 3.5.x is getting long in the tooth and won't be supported for too much longer. The KDE developers are focusing on KDE 4 which nobody really likes and probably won't like for a long time. Meanwhile, GNOME is advancing, picking up more and more users and leaving KDE behind.
I jumped off the KDE ship a while ago and I expect lot's of other people to do the same.

I am no Linux pro nor am I a KDE king.
I tried KDE 4 via the latest Kubuntu release and never thought to my self - WOW! Now that is clever! I have been using 3.5 for ages now and I have to say that Gnome still bores and frustrates me. Perhaps it is because of Windowsnitis aka getting used to something so much you hate change? Maybe Gnome does suck? Who am I to say? My Use of Linux and the desktop environment are so minimal that I feel inadequate to participate in this discussion. However, I do use KDE on a daily basis and so far did not find any new feature (bugy or not) which will make me want to upgrade to 4. Heavens forbid - to me this is the same as staying with XP or upgrading to Vista. The question for me is why? Just because it is a new version does not mean in any way that it is better.... If anything, older versions might not be cutting edge but they have been fixed and debugged to make them stable and reliable (I was not referring to Windows ). *checking kpackage to see if there are any new updates on the Sid repos*

Have any of you seen openSUSE 11.0 beta 2 yet? KDE 4 looks amazing from the screenshots I have seen. The silver theme is much nicer then the bland black theme that KDE4 normally uses.
Some of the visual effects look pretty cool as well.

Ever pick up a razor to shave, it looks nice and sharp and clean, but when you begin to shave it cuts a jagged swathe into your face? That's KDE 4.0.
