keyboard language problem (" To @)

Hi there and welcome to HWF!

It seems that you are using the American keyboard layout.
You can keep it but will need to get used to where everything is. (the @ in the US is over the 2).
However, to adopted the more sensible UK layout - In Widows XP -

First have a look at the bottom right part of the screen. next to the clock you might see a small square with 'EN' written in it. Click on it to see what options are available to you. If the UK English option is there, click on it to have the Keyboard Layout change to the UK.

If you have not got the UK option you will need to right click on the 'EN' and choose 'Settings' - then:
*In the Regional Options, make sure all settings point to the UK. In the Languages tab, click on the Details button to access the text services and input languages settings.
*See if UK English is listed in the main window. If not, Click on 'Add' and use the menus to add the UK English option. Once done, click on OK. Back at the main window, use the 'Default Input Language' drop down menu to select the UK English option.
*Make sure UK English is now the top option and click on 'Apply' and then 'OK' to close the window.
*Click on Apply again and then OK. This should do it.

If you cannot see the 'EN' square, then do the following:
Classic view:
*Start - Settings - Control Panel
*Then - Regional and Language options.
*Next - In the Regional Options, make sure all settings point to the UK. In the Languages tab, click on the Details button to access the text services and input languages settings.
*See if UK English is listed in the main window. If not, Click on 'Add' and use the menus to add the UK English option. Once done, click on OK. Back at the main window, use the 'Default Input Language' drop down menu to select the UK English option.
*Make sure UK English is now the top option and click on 'Apply' and then 'OK' to close the window.
*Click on Apply again and then OK. This should do it.

New look menu:
*Start - Control Panel.
Then find and click on the Date, Time, Language, regional options.
*Now click on the Regional and Language options.
*follow the instructions as in the classic view, starting from step three.
