Ubuntu is the distro that you'll want for those purposes.
I need help from those of you who are familiar with Linux.
I have a choice of dual booting XP with the following:
Knoppix
Ubuntu
Fedora Core
Suse
The OS must meet the following requirements:
MUST be able to play MP3s and WMVs
Support TV Card
Enable TV OUT support with a FX5200 NVidia graphics card
Ideal with WINE
Never trust a program you don't have the source code for.![]()

i can't disagree, Ubuntu is based on Debian & a good OS, howeverOriginally Posted by DavidNW
i prefer Kubuntu (Kubuntu is Ubuntu but it uses the KDE WM (Window Manager) instead of Gnome, Gnome is used of Ubuntu by default)
there are many distros to choose from, to name a few of the most popular:
Mandriva
PCLinuxOS is based on Mandriva
Pioneer is also very good
Freespire is also very good for noobs apparently (although i've never tried it myself) a good place to go to find a lot of distros is Distrowatch - they give you a brief description of that distro
that said i still personally prefer Kubuntu, but i'm bias cos i started my linux journey with KubuntuOff Topic:
i started with Kubuntu Dapper Drake 6.06 & now my fav OS is Kubuntu Feisty Fawn 7.04
Edit: you could also try VMware and install & try many linux distros, even from within Windows, here's an install guide for VMware, although the install procedure is based linux, however, in think it can easily used on the Windows version of VMware, good luck with your linux journey
