Default missing removable drive

Hi,

I am new to the forum and am not particularly technical minded when it comes to computers. I hope someone can give me some useful help/advice with my problem.

have a pc which is probably about 2 years old with which I have had no real problems.

Up until recently I had an external cd/rw which I used to burn cds on and that was recognised on my pc as the e:.

I replaced it with an internal dvd/rw which appears to work fine.

I have a 1gb mp3 player (flash) which connects via the usb port on the front of my pc.

Well that was the plan the trouble is when I connect it via the usb port it recognises the device as a mass storage device but that's as good as it gets. It then comes up with a message saying that there was a problem installing the device and it may not work properly (which is correct). I have tried uninstalling all my usb ports and letting the computer reinstall them but I still get this problem. I know it isn't the mp3 player because it works on my pc at work and is located on the e drive there.

Other things I have tried which may be classed as removable storage don't seem to work.

As I said earlier I am a bit of an amateur in this area and any help would be much appreciated.

I hope I have explained myself ok and apologise for the long post.

Thanks

Peter

was there a CD that came with the mp3 player? if there was try running that before hooking up the player. But make sure that you have removed the drivers from the mp3 player before running the CD

My Computer

have you been into the BIOS, try enabling something like "USB Legacy Support" (i think it is for USB keyboards, but try enabling it)
