Default modem/router problems

I just bought a new modem/router (DG834Gv3) so that i could have wireless in my house. I have installed it and connected my main pc with a cable. The internet works but most of the time it wont open alot of websites. also games such as counter strike source run with really high ping where as with my old modem was fine. any help would be much appreciated.

i may be wrong, but, are you using your ISPs DNS (Domain Name Servers / System), personally i use OpenDNS which i've discovered they provide much more reliable DNS

basically DNS convert domain names (www.website.com) into IP addresses (xxx.xxx.xxx.xxx) although they are more important than i've explained, but, a standard cheap modems provided by your ISP doesn't even know about DNS whereas with a router you can specify alternative DNS

read OpenDNS
