My Computer

Default Monitoring Newbies.

Hi, i went to this forum called DIYAudio, and i registered, i found that the first maybe 7 posts you do are not shown to the public untill a moderator has looked, and it gives you a message such as, you are currently under moderation etc., and untill an moderator approves the post, it wont be shown at all, same for threads.

I think this would be a good thing to put on HWF, especially since you get some awfull person come onto the forum, and there first post is like a dirty advert for porn or somthing, this system would help stop stuff like that.

I don't like it because it gives out the mentality "guilty until proven innocent". Plus such a system would put a real strain on us Mods and Admins

it wouldent put a real strain if the new posts were like in a hidden thread or something.

A system needs to be made so that the new threads / posts are hidden and also put into a hidden forum for admins / mods were they can be approved, maybe this site is too inactive? i mean on DIYAudio, all posts/threads were been approved within the first 30 mins when there been posted.

It would stop people from coming in the forum and posting about something like porn or spamming and disrupting other threads, this has just recently happened aswell.

It would put a strain as the Mods / Admins would have to go through each post, check the thread to see if the post is relevant and then make a decision based on what they think, it's a silly idea.

Like megamaced sais it gives a "guilty until proven innocent" attitude which is not what HWF is about.

My Computer

There was one in the thread about me falling through the loft, i notified Anti Trend, he put a notice and banned the member, but no one would notice these stupid posts if we had a system like this, prefrebly just monitor each new member on there first post only, so the first ever post done by a new member is checked over, if its ok, they dont need to be montiered, simple, but obviously its not going to happen as its a silly idea....

It’s not a stupid idea, it’s just we have a great team who can get rid of spam pretty quickly, plus members do report posts which is always helpful.

Even better idea would be to check the contents of the post e.g. look for *keywords* if matched, the thread goes into moderation queue.

Thanks for the feedback.

How about we go about it in a different way,

Instead of hiding posts from new users (hiding there posts from the public), why not have a system that will show posts from new users... this will let everyone on hwf become a moderator of sorts!

If a hwf user browsing these posts notices something that shouldn't be there, they can report it to a mod (obviously, mods would browse these posts in the same way but they can just take the appropriate actions!).

it should make things a bit easier for mods!

what i mean, is a link which shows search results... like the "Unanswered Threads" link, but only this one would show posts from users who have just signed up!

:S

why wouldn't any of the mods agree? All it would be is a link to a search which displays the first post any new users has made! (or perhaps there first few posts)
