Question Motherboard for AMD XP1800 with Firewire

I have not purchased a motherboard myself earlier, so I am not sure how to go about looking for one. I am looking for a motherboard which can host my AMD XP1800 processor, and will have a firewire port to it. Any idea what motherboards are available and where? Thanks!

i don't know of any motherboards with onboard firewire
what you'll probably need doing is buying a firewire PCI card, they're relatively cheap

I'm pretty sure the ABIT NF7-S in some revisions has a Firewire header onboard.
Also, the ASUS A7NX8X-E Deluxe and the Albatron KX18D Pro2 has onboard Firewire headers also. If you find one of these, you should be alright.

I was running the Asus A7N8X-E and that does have Firewire, as well as the Abit NF7-S. Either one should be fairly easy to find as far as Socket A motherboards go these days.

I forgot about headers

Yes my NF7-S has one and it's been a great board so far.

Abit NF7-S seems to take Socket 462 processor according to http://www.digital-daily.com/motherboard/abit-nf7s/, but you are talking about Socket A. What type is AMD Athlon XP 1800?

Btw, I am not very sure if the processor in my computer is XP1800 or XP2200, is there a way to find this out?

Thanks!

The Socket 462 IS Socket A. Socket A is just the name, and 462 is the pin count.
To view what CPU you have in Windows, just press the Windows key together with the PauseBreak key.
Alternatively, click Start --> Control Panel --> System

Thanks for the info. My computer is currently not starting up (as I mentioned in my other thread), I will check this once it is up. Thanks again.

The nearest store only has A7V400 (http://www.superwarehouse.com/Asus_A...00-MX/p/428457) available that suits the Athlon XP1800 that I have. I already have GB7VKMP which is giving me problems (see the 'Strange problem with my computer' thread), so this A7V400 inferior or superior compared to GB7VKMP? I dont see much difference.

Thanks.

The A7V400 is much better than the GigaByte board your using now.
It has FSB 400 support, AGP 8x, DDR 400 support, 5.1 channel sound and supports more USB ports. If it's the right price, you should grab it.

Edit: I noticed on the link you provided, the board says it's discontinued.

I am not buying from that site. What does 'discontinued' mean? Only from that site owner, or from ASUS? ASUS might have discontinued its production, but does the mobo have any issues?

Thanks.
