    Exclamation Mouse pauses

Hello I have been getting a problem recently, when I move the mouse around in Windows or a game, or anywhere, it pauses sometimes like if I swirl it around my desktop it would pause every 5 secs. This has only been happening recently and the only thing "major" I have done that I can think of is run a Vista Tweak cleaning program.

I don't usually use this, I normally use Ccleaner but I thought I'd try it (I have uninstalled it now) but it seemed very dodgy in a way- it deleted shortcuts on my desktop, deleted flash player from Firefox etc, and since I have run it that seems to be when my mouse started pausing, which has never happened before.

I have tried a few things but none have made any difference- ran AVG virus scan- found nothing, re-installed mouse drivers, re-installed Forceware drivers, defragged, used Ccleaner for the registry, made sure Windows update is all up to date, I've tried everything I can think of and nothing seems to work I really need it sorted as I can't be dealing with it.

    My hardware is-
    550w PSU
Athlon 64 3000+ overclocked to 2.5ghz (ran prime95 for 5 hours seems stable)
    2GB RAM
    Logitech VX nano laser mouse
    Raptor 74GB
    8600GT overclocked 700/900
    Vista Ultimate x64

Could it be some kind of hardware conflict or anything? Or is there any diagnostic program I can run to find any faults anywhere?

If I missed any info just say and I will give it, Any help would be much appreciated, thanks from Chris

By the way, this doesn't constantly happen, it randomly happens often, but I have never had any problems like this before, it's been happening for a few days- I have tried Googling this kind of problem with no luck, could it possibly be my CPU overheating due to very hot weather? I read 1 post somewhere that says if your CPU overheats too much, it tries to slow it down for a bit to cool it, which could possibly cause mouse pauses/stuttering/freezes etc, but I have had my CPU overclocked for months now even it hot weather and not a problem

Mess around with the mouse settings in the control panel to see if it helps.

Looks like the tweak utility changed something that can't be changed easily, I think maybe its changed the mouse refresh rate. Try installing the tweak utility again and change the mouse settings in there.

Hi thanks for the reply, I managed to get it sorted though I don't know why I didn't think of it, but I just ran a system restore as the tweak utility made a restore point before running it and it's working fine now I think it was deleting some important files as it did a "junk" file clean and registry clean and I noticed that I saw some important Windows files being deleted as it was cleaning, it's just a dodgy program lol just out of interest, is a mouse refresh rate something to do with optical/laser mice? Even though it is working fine now, is there a way to change the refresh rate of it, for a better pickup or anything? Also the mouse has a thing where it half turns off to save battery after a couple of minutes, with or without the Setpoint drivers, do you know if there is a way to disable this? It's just if I'm playing a game like BF2 and am camping, the mouse takes a second or 2 to get back to itself after being idle, it would be good if I could disable that feature

Thanks but tried that, it was just the system restore it seems fine now- I tried googling the refresh rate but I can't change it from 125hz because it's wireless it seems ok anyway I don't think I can change the power down feature on it as it's designed for notebooks, but I have another problem nowI have been using it for almost a year without setpoint because I didn't want or need any additional drivers, but I recently installed Setpoint (64-bit) the latest version, and it has made my mouse much much smoother, I disabled mouse smoothing and acceleration on Setpoint and it just makes the cursor less twitchy than Windows drivers, but since I have installed it, I have had a big FPS drop in games, without Setpoint, in BF2 I would get consistent 80-100fps, but now it's installed it goes to about 40-50- any ideas? I don't really want to go back to Windows drivers now as I like the Setpoint, but never heard of this problem

Try updating the graphics drivers to see if it helps.

Strange that you get a big drop in frame rate, try uninstalling Setpoint to confirm the issue and then report to Logitech/ATI.

The reason it (mouse) appears smoother is probably down to the increased refresh rate set by setpoint (I think so anyway).

Are there any recommended drivers for 8600GT apart from the official Nvidia ones? I tried a Nvidia beta a while ago and it gave me constant BSOD so changed back to latest official and it's fine, I've heard of Tweakforce and Omega drivers, do you know if they are reliable and have any performance impact? I know I could try them out but I thought I'd ask first because I don't want to mess things up, knowing my luck, if they didn't work, I'd go back to the drivers I'm currently using and they wouldn't work either lol
Also- is the 8 series of Nvidia drivers still being updated? I am always checking for official drivers but they seem to be 9 and GTX series related
