right guys, mum just rang me to inform me that something has arrived (over a week late) now i know i can piggyback multiple routers, however, my original router is bog standard ADSL, but the new 1 (if it is actually what i ordered) is ADSL, ADSL2 n ADSL2+
now for my question: can both routers work simultaneously on the same ADSL line, i know it will not be any faster with both routers than using 1 obviously, without damaging anything and i think i just need to enter: username, password, MAC address n obviously DNS n stuff, but, do i need anything else Edit: obviously i'll be waiting for a reply to this post before i connect anything, ![]()

I've allways assumed that you can only have one ADSL modem connected to the ADSL line.... i might be wrong but i've never read anything which suggested otherwise

no, you can piggy back them, but, i can't find where i read it, please bear with me and i'll just install scribus & i'll make you a nice pic of how it works, if i can remember
but it will still only download at the same rate as 1 router, presumably, you can piggyback routers to aid with the installation of a new 1, so, presumably, piggybacking them will not damage anything
Off Topic:
will try to find where i read it

I've never heard of that before. I know you can configure one as a switch so that DHCP services don't interfere, and then use them together, but one the same ADSL line I don't think it's possible.

i think it is used to add more functionality to your network e.g. add a wireless router to an existing network to obviously add wireless connectivity to an existing network

the TFL post does not mention having both routers plugged into the same phone line, its describing methods for plugging one router into the other (using network cables)

Yes, you can daisy chain them. However you asked if you could use them both on the same ADSL line, which would require you to split the ADSL line into 2, one going into each router. That's the part that was being questioned by myself and Impotence.

BTW: thank you for getting me to try to prove myself, i really do appreciate it, and sorry Edit: sh1t, theres so much to learn / understand before i can start to even think about connecting / using this new router, is there a quick / easy way to lean this crap BTW: sorry for the misunderstanding Edit: & will it be hard to swith back to my current router after i've setup DDNS & stuff ?
