    Default name the upgrades

I want to play half-life 2 and Counter-Strike Source, but I need to upgrade, but I'm not sure how much I'll need. I'll list the specs of my PC, and you tell me how much I need to upgrade. keep in mind that I'm just reading off the side of my tower.

    Prossessor: 2.6GHz
    RAM: 512MB DDR
    Video Memory: 64MB
    Hard Drive: 80GB
    Ethernet: 10/100 MBps

Here's the upgrades I have in mind already.

How much more do I need to play the games?

That link only shows the newegg shopping cart, specific to you so I don't see anything. For a gaming performance upgrade, you're looking at a new Athlon 64 CPU, motherboard, definately a new graphics card and probably a PSU aswell.
Never trust a program you don't have the source code for.

Alright, though your cpu isn't ideal it will surfice for HL2. Yeah a gig of ram is a very good idea as anything less on HL2 with settings turned up causes slowdown. A HIS what? Many cards have 256MB's or vram, what model did you choose? I don't know how much you can spend but a X800GTO AGP: http://www.newegg.com/Product/Produc...82E16814102608
Or a 6800GT: http://www.newegg.com/Product/Produc...82E16814119144 (when they come back in stock). Either would be perfect for max settings assuming your cpu doesn't hold you back too much, which it shouldn't.

The 9600's are decent for HL2 but the price could be a lot better. With that budget get a X700, http://www.newegg.com/Product/Produc...82E16814102585, sweet card for the money. The X700Pro is obviously better but the AGP versions are rare and expensive.

thanx. Any comments on the RAM stick? It's a Kingston ValueRAM 1GB 184-Pin DDR SDRAM DDR 400 (PC 3200) Unbuffered System Memory Model KVR400X64C3A/1G

    Again I copied and pasted.

a 9600 is quite good, and i am surprised by how well it performs

    http://www.hardwareforums.com/bit-be...ng-i-did-8569/

check out first post i did on this thread, also, i will be benchmarking the 9600 on all those titles again tommorow exept on lower res and medium settings and NO AA or AF, i played games like doom 3, half life 2 and more with the 9600 on slightly lower settings and was able to just get by, all in all, i was very please with the card, and its in increadable overclocker on the core, 325mhz- 486mhz, also get this card if you just wnat to play those game, or maybe try a card like the 9800pro/xt or 6600gt, or x700pro.

But why get a 9600 when you can get a X700 for less? Still a good card for being several years old.
The ram will be good, I trust Kingston and a gig will be very nice for all modern games.
