I recently bought a pc online but when i opened it up the heat sink fan was messed up so they are sending a new one tommorow, my problem is with the thermal paste, when i removed the heatsink fan some of the paste came with it, now i was wondering that because this is a new pc and newish paste, do i still have to do the whole removing existing paste with alcohol method?, i added some akas thermal compound to the part which was missing some paste and spreaded it over the paste that was already there, is this ok to do? or am i going to break something in my processor now?

BTW: you may be asked to sign the poisons book, just tell them why you want it clean of all the old paste, and when applying the new paste only applly a paper thin layer, cos if you put too much on, or it will act as an insulator, keeping the heat on the CPU instead of transfering it to the CPU cooler

as suggested by donkey42, its recommended that you remove the existing thermal paste before applying a new layer for best cooling performance!
