My Computer

Default Need some advice on opening a PSU. (Fixing laminations iron mesh in transformer)

Hello, I've done some research on my humming psu and its because the laminations of the iron mesh in my transformers have come loose and vibrating as the polarity changes.

If i open the PSU up could I do something to the transformers (like sort of put a bit of pressure on the iron mesh to firm them up) - as a try?

I'd get it RMA'd but I would like to skip that as I've swapped a lot of stuff with them and they're very mad with me.

Thanks

I have opened up many power supplys before to remove there fans,Also to fix there fans.
But when you try to fix other things inside, it is not worth it..You are better of buying a new one, besides nobody likes electrical fires..

Well, opening up the unit will void the warranty, so if it's still fairly new, then I wouldn't crack it open. Additionally, the capacitors inside can still hold a good charge even without the unit being powered on for awhile.
