Ok iam going to ask you pro's a qustion that has probably been ask 10,000 time. I want too build my own but have very little know how on the this stuff. Where do you start. My daughter is moving back home and needs a pc for collage classes/No games.

Well, that depends on what she's doing with it exactly. If it's just e-mail, web surfing, office apps-- that can be had very, very cheaply and without real frills. If she's looking into graphics design, there will be a few things to pay attention to in parts selection.
As far as know-how, the basics would involve some mechanical aptitude and the ability to read diagrams. Additionally, being able to identify the parts by sight would be good to know before you dive in. How much time do you have to play around with this? Usually, it goes pretty well, but if you're short on time, then it might be better to snag a basic pre-built HP instead. A short version of this would be: if you can use a screwdriver, and read and follow directions, you can build a computer. |
