Default new build question

Hey everyone...new member here.
i plan on making a new build as my graphics card just burned out(and so it gives me an excuse to revamp everything of course).
my only concern is i am not 100% sure about whether or not my psu will be able to handle it. by my judgement it should but i figured it cant hurt to ask.
i have antec 430 truepower.

the rig i am buying is as follows..

mb-ax8 v.1 with an amd 64 4000+ -- http://www.abit-usa.com/products/mb/...es=1&model=215

RAM- 1GB 400MHz DDR Non-ECC 3-3-3 Kit Dual Rank (2x512's....and im getting two of them)

GPU-EVGA E-Geforce 7800 GT http://www.evga.com/products/moreinf...256-P2-N518-AX

and a western digital sata drive 200gb http://www.wdc.com/en/products/Products.asp?DriveID=58

as for the rest i plan on just moving over my dvd-r and my cd drive, sound card, and the like...
so i just read (no joke like 20 seconds ago) that the VGA card im getting needs a minimum of a 450 psu..so i guess ive answered my own question.. and suggestions for a good psu then? or any comments on my selections? open to criticism..thanks in advance guys.. oh and for what its worth this is a gaming rig.

thanks for the quick reply.. after doing some more research, that one looks like its a pretty nice psu...not a bad price either...

a question though..the motherboard says -
Dual DDR 400
Dual DDR combines the power of DDR400 with two 64-bit independent memory controllers, the 128-bit memory controller integrated on chip provides up to 6.4 GB/sec bandwidth for system memory, and gives you highest performance and cost-effective platform.
--
now does this mean i need dual core memory, and if so it does need to be one of the kits designed for dual memory channels? my goal is 2 gb, so would i be able to get 4x512 sticks(2 of the kits) or would i need a single 2 gb kit(2x1gb sticks) to use the dual ddr function.

sorry im doing my best to catch up on the times..havent gotten to ram yet.. thanks again in advance..

Really even for heavy gaming you won't need 2GB of RAM. 1GB is more than enoug for most things, and gaming will be no problem with it. I'm not also sure that dual channel with 4 sticks of RAM is possible, someone lse might have to clarify.
btw for dual channel all that is required is 2 identical stick of RAM and a dual channel capable motherboard.

Dual Channel RAM with all 4 slots filled is possible, my motherboard can handle it as long as all 4 modules are the same, i'm not sure about that motherboard as each is different.

thanks for the info on the ram..also i realize 1 gb is ample for most heavy gaming, im a little bit of a special case.. as it is now i usually run a few programs at once...ie-ventrillo-server and client, winamp, morpheus, limewire, and one game.. the only time my system really bogs down is when im playing a mmorpg, and i try to run more than one instance of it at the same time..(ie log into two different accounts and play both at once). that kills my system.plus i find it better to get overkill and not upgrade for a while than get what works for the time being and upgrade constantly...just how i like to do things..ive currently got 1gb of ram and back when i bought it everyone was telling me "oh thats way too much youll never need that much ram"...well..eventually they all upgraded and i sat back happy with my rig... anyway enough ranting i should probably get some work done... thanks again for all the help and ill post and let ya know how it works out..

ok well i just placed the order.. changed a few things due to some last minuet suggestions by some friends...and i only went $70 over my limit.. got the same mb+proc, vid card, and the suggested power supply. went with 2gb kingston pc3200 (4x512) got 2 of the same 400mhz kits ....
went with a maxtor drive instead.. same size, 16mb buffer, $10 more...got an arctic cooler freezer 64 cpu heatsink..only ran 30 bucks..overall im pretty happy.. as i said ill post the final assembly results..probably around friday(when its all supposed to be here) thanks again for the help

only thing i couldnt find was a 6 fan controller.. ive got 6 case fans and id like to just turn em down sometimes.. all i could find were switches(and i could make that at work)no rheo's....maybe ill see if i can snag some...oh well..see you on friday...

well got it all setup, and aside from some problems with the bios(a known issue and upgrading the version fixed it) it runs flawlessly. i can now play black and white 2, bf2, and wow, completly maxed out on all the video options without any sort of bog down, boot time and load times are great, and i am loving it. a note to anyone using sata drives for the first time...it is a little difficult doing a fresh install on a sata drive. read up on it before attempting. the cpu cooler runs amazing as well...its huge but it is suprisingly quiet(not that it matters..ive got 6 case fans...got an old xoxide x-turbine).

oh and not two days after i set everything up and was thinking how i really need some fan controllers..i find this bad boy..

cant wait...thanks for the help guys, this rig rocks... ill be posting some pics in the case gallery once i have a little fun with some mods ive been wanting to try ..

ahh cool, although I would have gone with a Western Digital or Seagate Hard Drive instead, they are more reliable and generally concidered the superior drives...
