Default New build/upgrade advice

Hey all, I havent been really into building comps for about 6 years.

My parents computer was one I built with an XP 2000/abit board

Im having trouble deciding on parts - I dont know all this new stuff.

I was looking at some of the AMD's, because they are cheap, but they look like they will consume more power and run slightly hotter - was looking at a 6000+ windsor, or 5600 brisbane.

Now Im looking at intel - budget is an issue so Im looking at a e7200 I believe. 1066 FSB and more L2 I think... as well as being 45nm for heat/power.

So the only thing that seems to really be confusing me is the motherboard options.

They have memory standard, as well as FSB speed listed for each board.

will an intel with 1066 speed run on a board that says it runs 1600/1300 FSB? or no?

Im having trouble finding a board that has the same memory standard as FSB capability - unless its ok to run a proc with the same mem standard as the FSB on the chip, but slower than the FSB the board supports.

DDR2 speeds that is...

so can you guys knock me straight so I can get some parts slapped together?
