Hey guys, I just recently installed a new motherboard on my laptop. When I turned it on everything worked (finally). After starting up I realized that half my keys weren't working properly, 1/4 the left side was not responding. I tweaked around the keyboard plug in and every now and then it would work, but once I pulled off my manual pressure from my hand it would go back... what can I do? I am currently using a usb keybored for the time being. However is there a way to actually just buy that piece that snaps onto the mb to plug in the Keyboard, or could this actually be a bigger problem. Thanks.

I think you can buy that stuff, sure. but before that, maybe try to squeeze something in the connection of the keyboard and the motherboard and see, sincu you said that applying pressure makes it work more or less. So, obviously, it seems to be simply a connection problem.

I didnt catch the make of your mobo but its all relative anyway.
A lot of times when this happens, the interlock for your ribbon cable isnt completely inserted. You should get a solid double cluck when the long flat ribbon clip lock seats. The real trick is to hold that keyboard ribbon cable dead on AS you seat the clip lock. On some older laptops you may discover that simply removing the keyboard has fractured the paper thin metal layer on the face of the mylar cable, in which case doing an exact cut to the insert end of the cable will bring a fresher set of contacts closer to the contact pins inside of the ribbon clip housing. Most ribbon cables allow for this with longer exposed runs of metal. |
