Question novice needs help with driver updates

i'm new so don't laugh-downloaded "driver detective" went ok-scan went ok-1 driver missing, 4 drivers outdated-time to register or fix-they want 19.95-is only scan free? it doesn't read that way to me-anyway wanted to play dvd on my pc and thought this would be the place to start-now i'm hearing about 'codecs'-any free clean downloads to resolve these issues? running XP with the latest (as far as i know) updates from MS and any others that pop up-could someone please help me

just reread the post, yeah, i agree, that software is probably a con, if everything works, ignore the crap that some software tells you, paying to fix not existent problems is wrong IMO

is there anything else that leads you to think you have a problem ?
if not, your problem free
