Default PC Novice

Have just obtained first Pc and am trying to connect to an Apple network.

Network appears in Wireless Networks, and when I connect it appears to have made the connection. But when I launch Explorer I'm told I am not on line?

Please help a PC Novice out.

Ta TA for now

My Computer

Hi,

I guess the first thing I would try is just to see if you have an IP address. After it says you are connected, go to the windows start button and click on run. In the box, type cmd and then hit enter, and this will open up a black command window. In that window, type in ipconfig and it should come back with an IP address. If it doesnt, that would explain why you cant get to a website, as you are not really on the the network yet. If you dont have an IP address, try typing in the black window ping 127.0.0.1. If that comes back with reply from 127.0.0.1 with some times in ms, it means your NIC card is working ok. Is the network you are trying to connect to using a router or a gateway computer or something similar? Also, If you are having trouble with wireless, could you try a network cable plugged into your pc and into the router directly just to see if it will work that way? Are you trying to get out on the internet or just connect to an apple computer for file sharing? I do not have much experience with apple networks, but these are some basic things that you can check.
