I'm thinking of going with an intel chipset G33 or P35
am kinda sweet on asus boards.
Anyone have any first hand experience with boards of these chipsets, would really appreciate some honest feedback. - specially the ASUS ones

stability & the board being trouble free is my main concern

intel branded ones are perfect for sound on vista as they have built in hd block but when we say system performance nvidia is way better i have to say

p35 don't have integrated graphics so you gotta buy a g33 chipset mobo than one of my friends using it and he says except gaming it can satisfy your needs

but i suggest you to save some more money because conroes don't deserve integrated graphics believe me even an hd2600pro will be enough to give full system performance concerning cpu

just a note: you can get a quad-core (Q6700?) for the same price ($300ish /£160) i wish i went with that option..

see below for cpu benchtests, the quadcore version is the better options for cash, its the same price because the core2duo predercessor is better at some things, but the quad kicks arse at other things vs the duo.

today's app.s are not using any quad optimised technology my cousin is using q6600 and even e6600 is faster than it generally

3d mark or cpu mark are the results showing cpu power, not system power and the system doesn't depend on cpu that much

it needs at least two years to see quad core working perfectly and the first guys that will be the leaders are penryn and barcelona


and rainstorm, you can buy a nforce 650i and a gfx (8600gt maybe, better than onboard)

before commenting on anything can you tell me your budget

Dwarfer wrote..they are not the same price. the 1333mhz FSB cpus have been released at a much lower price. - so they are cheaper than the 1066mhz FSB ones, having the same clock speed. you are probably referring to the more expensive 1066 mhz ones.
I'll be getting the more recent 1333mhz FSB onne E6750 - that's around $204
while the E6700 is $319 (both are 2.66Ghz clock speed core2Duos) - take a look at this link...

Gigabyte GA-G33M-DS2R motherboard (95% i think)

I'm kinda bent on a stable good board.. & these are the ultra durable gigabyte ones with solid capacitors. I want this board to last.. even if i buy another system in the future.

Thing is I won't be using Raid & this board has raid..(wonder how much that hikes the price) - but I couldn't find an ultra durable gigabyte.. without raid.
besides that.. I like the features of this board etc.... for the price .. around 132 bucks

Well, to get a decent motherboard that won't cut performance, go with the CPU you want, and get the power supply, 1GB of RAM (you can go lower, but it's not recommended) and a case is going to be pushing around $500. You're going to find it very difficult to find a good power supply under $80.

Now, this assumes you use the basic 3-day shipping. Additionally, it's not often you find a case with free shipping, so if you want something else, pay attention as Newegg tends to ask about $15-20 for a case.

Many motherboards come with RAID as part of the chipset, so while you can probably find a few boards out there that lack RAID, you're unlikely to save a whole lot. Premium motherboards typically contain an additional RAID controller, which adds to the cost. A basic motherboard like the MSI is probably going to be one of the cheapest options you'll find for a P35 board. You might also consider some nForce 650i boards, which would be another low-cost contender.

bigb,..I'll be going with the G33 chipset.. the gigabyte board i mentioned earlier.. most probably .- i could stretch the total cost to around 500 maybe slightly more. & I've planned on 1GB RAM kingston.. for now.
